Overview

This project involved creating a fun explainer video for a MythBusters-style episode centered around the question, 'Can Short Goalies Still Go Pro?' The video takes a lighthearted approach, exploring how the NHL is dominated by tall goalies. Through visual storytelling, it showcases the differences in how tall and short goalies move and react to the puck, offering an engaging and insightful comparison.

Assets

For this project, I wanted to make use of as many original assets as I could, whether it was the sound of my hand slapping a pillow, or an excessive amount of bobblehead photos.

My main characher was created by taking photos of a Roberto Luongo bobblehead I own. I threw the Luongo bobblehead into photoshop and moved the pads into different positions to help animate different goalie movements and actions, as well as creating multiple different facial experssions to help my character emote throughout the video instead of keeping a static face and finally replacing the club logo on his chest with my own.

For the shorter goalie character, I took an image of a Gianluigi Buffon bobblehead and photoshopped the head onto the body of the Luongo bobblehead. I then adjusted the colors to represent the Italian flag, reflecting the nationality of goalkeeper Gigi Buffon.

Video Creation

The video’s creation involved numerous layers and assets, including two different rink angles, various goaltender poses and expressions, pucks, text, masks, sounds, and more. A key focus of the video was to highlight the differences between tall and short goalies. To illustrate this, the taller goalie is shown covering more of the net while moving less laterally, whereas the shorter goalie requires rapid movements to cover the net and block the puck. By combining all these elements, the result is an engaging and entertaining explainer video.
